We Are: Nerea Cots Sánchez, Android Developer
How did you start your career?
Whilst in the last year of my degree, I found myself really interested in Android development. I started to study it independently, working on a couple of personal projects, and this research went on to inspire my final degree project.
In the summer of 2016, I started work at a tech consulting firm working on an app for a bank. I’d worked there for almost a year, and had learned a great deal, but I had come to realise that the tech we were using was outdated and, as such, began to feel stagnant in my job. I then met Fidel and he told me about Mobile First. After an interview, in which they explained their company philosophy, I instantly fell in love and soon became part of the team.
I’m always looking to improve my knowledge and grow as a professional; for example, my last achievement was receiving the Associate Android Developer certification from Google. My future goals are to become a Jedi Android Developer and a Software Architect specialising in mobile applications.
What do you like about being a member of the Mobile First team?
The Mobile First office is a dynamic environment where our ideas and opinions are welcome and discussed. There are always cool and innovative projects to work on and we use good practices during our working methodologies to ensure that we do the job well and consistently align with our values.
We are also always encouraged to learn new things and to expand our knowledge, not only on an individual-level but also on a company-level too. Most importantly, the company is based on, and thrives because of, our individual passions for tech.
What do you love about Barcelona?
I first visited Barcelona as a child, as I’m originally from Manresa, and I fell in love with it. A year ago, I fulfilled my childhood dream and finally moved to the city.
I love walking the city streets because there are always new things to discover. If you love matcha tea, or are looking for somewhere to drink a good coffee, I recommend visiting Takashi Ochiai, a traditional Japanese bakery where you’ll find everything from macarons, to croissants, to every sweet cake you could imagine!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I’m passionate about playing video games, reading books, watching movies and TV shows. I enjoy programming and I’m a fan of clean code and best practices.
I’m also a metalhead and an aspiring biker.
